However, if you have additional medical questions, our triage department is available during normal office hours to assist you.

Insurance

Billing

Our billing office is available to assist you with any billing concerns that you may have. It is very important to be aware of your health plan benefits, including any co-pays, deductibles, and/or any need for referrals. If you have any billing questions, please contact the billing department.

Insurance Plans

Our office accepts most major medical plans. Please call our office to confirm your coverage as plans can often change.

HMO

Referrals are required by your insurance when seeing any other doctor/specialists other than Edgewood Center Pediatrics. Without a referral your insurance may not cover the cost of any medical treatment you or your child obtain. Please requests referrals at least 5 days prior to your appointment with the specialist/facility.

As part of our contract with your insurance company the following is required to complete any referral request:

The patient must be a current patient in our office and seen within the last year. The patient must be referred to the specialist/facility by one of Edgewood Center Pediatrics providers or provide documentation that another medical provider (ER, other specialist) has referred you to the specialist/facility. The patient must have a well exam in our office within the last year. All referral requests can be completed online at www.edgewoodpeds.com. The following information is required to complete the referral:

First and last name of the specialist/facility you were referred to. Date and time of the appointment with specialist/facility. Address, phone number and fax number of specialist/facility being referred to. Reason or diagnosis for the referral.

Unfortunately, without this information the requests cannot be processed. We appreciate your understanding and patience with this policy.

Insurance Language

To help with insurance lingo, we have listed several of the most common definitions that we feel are important to be aware of.

Copay - The amount an insured person is expected to pay for a medical expense at the visit.

Coinsurance - More generally, risk sharing between the insurer and the insured. Also called copay.

Maximum Benefit - the maximum dollar amount an insurer has to pay for all healthcare services for the insured during a year.

Deductible - A portion of a claim to be paid by the insured before the insurer makes any payment.

Coordination of Benefits - Benefits under one plan are coordinated with benefits from another insurance plan (that covers the same benefits), so payments won’t be duplicated. All families must submit COB information annually, if using benefits, to expedite the claims-paying process.
